Here are the scrubbies that I have been working on here and there this month. They are a great on-the-go and t.v. watching project. Here is the pattern that I followed. I doubled the pattern, so I cast on 36 stitches and knitted 40 rows to get this size.
I like to make extras when preparing for a class, that way the kids have a choice. With the left overs from my Saturday class, I sewed together 21 juice pouch notebooks last night. I'll be selling these at a craft fair on November 20th. You can see the events page of my website for more info.
I think these little notebooks are great! I also think they might be cute to hand out to students, scout troups or youth groups, and/or to trick-or-treaters!! (a nice alternative to candy!).. Now, I know I've got some juice pouches saved up somewhere around here.. I've just got to FIND them! ~tina
ReplyDeleteUsing the pattern you recommended, I've made about 20 scrubbies. My favorite is to follow the pattern as directed but use two strands of yarn - the scrubbie is very substantial and durable. Thanks for passing along this pattern.
ReplyDeleteSally, thats wonderful! I'll have to try using 2 strands together. I love using these scrubbies to.
ReplyDeleteBeansieleigh, that is a great idea. I've taught girl scouts and cub scouts how to make the notebooks before. When I use to collect the juice pouches from classrooms, I would make each child a notebook as a thank you.
Those juicebox pouch notebooks are wonderful! I was thinking maybe my preschool kids (in our homeschool group) could make them if we pre-punch the holes. Do you have a tutorial for them? How hard is it to clean the pouches out?
ReplyDeleteTara, here is my video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6zBT2JUqxk Here are the basic directions: http://textiles4you.blogspot.com/2009/10/its-easy-being-green-episode-6-back-to.html I teach this to kids and I have found it best to pre-punch the holes and to pre-thread the needles. I use tapestry needles, and the thread needs to be a little over 3 times the length of the juice pouch. Here is the video tutorial on how to clean them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFts-4i8UF0 If you have any questions, please feel free to ask :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea. Too bad my kids have outgrown those drinks. Now I think of how many I threw away - argg. Recycling or upcycling has such a sense of satisfaction. My Recycling Works! line of trash to treasure items helps to keep materials out of the landfill.
ReplyDeleteVery cool little notebooks! How clever!
ReplyDeleteThese are great, and I love the idea that you're teaching kids how to make them themselves!
ReplyDeleteLove the juice pouch notebooks. Thanks for linking up so many fun ideas!
