It's Easy Being Green: Episode 11: Virginio Mendonca

My guest on episode 11 was Virginio Mendonca. He does a lot for the environment. He brought his solar oven on the show, which cost only $10 to make. It was made out of a cardboard box, potato chip bags (for reflectors), and other reclaimed objects. Here in New England the solar cooker can heat up to 350 degrees. Along the equator, where Virginio has taught people how to make their own solar oven, it can heat up to 450 degrees.

Virginio is best known for converting diesel cars to run on vegetable oil. The picture above is from his website, and it shows him standing next to on of his vegetable oil car. He is also a very good composter. When I moved to Chelmsford, the recycling office manager, Jennifer, told me just how amazing he is at turning his compost into black gold.

If you would like to learn more about Virginio and what he does, please visit his website: www.virginiosbackyard.com. He teaches classes and visits other countries to pass on his environmental knowledge. Also check my you tube channel to see the 3 videos from the t.v. episode.
