Monster Bread Tags

Earlier this month I saw this blog post from Crafts by Amanda on making bread tag monsters.  I thought that it was brilliant.  Finally something to make out of the bread tags that I save for no apparent reason.

You can follow Amanda's directions in the link above.  She used acrylic paint for her tags, but I only had kid's tempera paint on hand.  Acrylic probably works better.  I did have some chipping issues with the tempera paint.

Here are my little sketches for the tags.

Here are my tags after the paint has dried and I sprayed clear coating on them.

Close ups.  Aren't they fun?!

You can use them on Halloween goody bags.

Or glue a magnet to the back of them.

Whatever you decide to do with them, they are so cute!

Maybe they will still get used to keep cords together or to keep my bread nice and fresh.

I'm looking forward to putting these cuties to good use.

  1. How CUTE! I love that you made these, so fun! LOVE that Frankenstein design, too cute and the square top fits perfectly. Thanks so much for letting me know I inspired these, they are wonderful! :) :)

  2. I'm so glad that you got to see them. Thank you for this wonderful craft! The Frankenstein ones are my favorites.

  3. I LOVE these! I don't have any children at home, but this makes me wish I did.

  4. Adorable, what a great use for a lowly bread bag tag :)

  5. Fantastic idea! They are always lying around our place and seem such a waste. Will be great to do something crafty with them.

  6. Those are adorable!! What a great idea for an every day object that most throw away! -Karen

  7. LOVE these :) come on over and link up to MMM !

  8. Another cute idea, glue pins to the back so the kids can wear them !!

  9. These are so cute, we are going to make these at my daughters class party. I love the magnet idea, I was thinking of gluing a pin in the back so they can wear them. My daughter thought it would be fun just to trade them..
I purchased 500 tags online at a supply store.
I also plan on spray painting the tags first using spray paint for plastic.
I thought glow in the dark and googly eyes would be cute for ghosts too.
I don't think you need kids to do this project, I am just as excited to make them myself!!!

    1. You are so smart for using plastic spray paint. This paint eventually chipped off on me, so plastic paint would have been better. Later on I used google eyes and sharpies to create cute tag characters.

Ir sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun making these. Have fun!
