For those just starting to get to know me, here is why my mom nominated me:
- I'm on my town's Recycling Committee.
- I'm on my church's Green Committee.
- I am an administrator on my town's green facebook page.
- I'm a member of Chelmsford CAN (climate action network).
- For 3 years in a row I collected and recycled juice pouches from elementary classrooms. The last year that I did it, I collected over 2000 juice pouches. I've been collecting and recycling juice pouches in my home for the past 6 or 7 years. Various people that I know save them for me. I enjoy making all kinds of things out of them, which you can see on my blog and on my website.
- I've participated in my town's Earth Fair for the past 3 years. Two of those years, I organized the Earth Fair. This year will be my 3rd year of organizing the Earth Fair. I do not get paid to do it.
- I am a freelance eco-art teacher. I have taught both children and adults at various locations how to make things out of recycled materials.
- I am constantly making things out of recycled materials.
- I was my town's May 2009 Recycling Champion. They try and find a different one each month.
- I am one of the moderators in the From Trash to Treasure group on Ravelry.com. The group is all about crafting from recycled materials.
- In June 2009 I started filming my local access t.v. show called "Its Easy Being Green." It is all about how to be more environmental. You can view show notes from past episodes by looking on the lower right hand side of my blog. Many of the episodes can be viewed on my you tube channel (the link is on the upper right hand side of my blog). Different guests come on the show to talk about how they are environmental. I also show a variety of eco-crafting on the show.
- I recycle, compost, have a rain barrel, and do other things to conserve energy, water, and resources.
- Things that I craft with: juice pouches, plastic bags, t-shirts, old clothes, plastic and metal bottle caps, plastic bottles, plastic bottle rings, soda/pull tabs, cardboard, paper, cardboard tubes (like toilet paper tubes, mailing tubes, etc.), potato chip bags, straws, tin containers, glass jars, butter tubs, plastic lids, milk/juice cartons (plastic and the wax cartons), twist ties, bread tags, scrap fabric and yarn, candy wrappers, old cds, vhs tape, cassette tape, cd spindles, and egg cartons. I am sure there is more, but that is all that I can think of at the moment.
- Probably my biggest impact on the environment, believe it or not, is that I have been a vegetarian since 1994. My husband is also a vegetarian (since 1991). We are raising both of our children as vegetarians. It is to early to say if my youngest child will remain a vegetarian, but my oldest son (11 years old) has told me that he plans on staying one.
Thank you mom for nominating me. I love you!
