Garrison House Quilt Show

33rd Annual Quilt Show at the Garrison House

This is my 2nd year going to this quilt show, and this is the first time that I have had a quilt in a show.
This is a long post, but I'm not even showing half of the beautiful quilts that were there.
It was also nice seeing so many familiar quilts and names from my quilt guild.

Here is the crib quilt that I entered.  It was hard to take a picture of it since it was in the hall way.  I designed it and made it when I was pregnant with my second child.

Here I am with the owner of the quilt, my youngest son.

This on was an old quilt.  Some of the fabric was missing in areas.

There was a small house full of embroidery items.

This quilt was made from the same brand of men's shirts.  The labels were using in the design.

They had a cute little tea, coffee, and snack area.
My son did not want his picture taken.
That is until he was being silly with a lemon wedge.
It was also a lovely time, because I had tea with Anne Gallo and her daughter.
Anne Gallo had a whole room dedicated to the quilts that she and Sue Raban had made.

*Some quilts are not titled because I forgot to take a picture of it's number so that I could look it up in the program.

Roadrunner Video

All day yesterday I worked on complying 4 of my you tube videos to form a 30 minute video for my local t.v. show.  This clip is from the end of that video.  I recorded it yesterday.  It is about the rollable compost bin that I had bought last April and on the roadrunners that my uncle makes out of railroad spikes.  This is a great example of metal sculpture from recycled items.

Spinning Plarn

I realized at one point today that we had not hung out outside today.  My boys need to run around and get away from the t.v. and video games.  So I took the spinning wheel (its borrowed) outside and spun some plarn while my kids played.

I really need to buy one of these spinning wheels.  Maybe with tax money next year.

In other news, I spent all day yesterday putting together a 30 minute episode for my t.v. show.  I compiled 4 videos that I had made for you tube, and I filmed myself doing some video introductions.  I can't tell you how many times that I changed the music for it.  I exported it twice (the 2nd time do to adjustments that I had to make).  Then I tried to post it on here to get all of your opinions on it, but it was taking forever.  I might upload the mini bonus clip that I filmed yesterday onto you tube.  The t.v. studio had closed in July for renovations, and they are not finished yet.  They are converting to HD, even though the cable company isn't showing it in HD yet.  At least the videos will be of a higher quality.  I start taping new shows in October.  Until then I wanted to give them this home movie episode, because many people have asked when I was going to make a new one (locals who watch the show).

Also I am entering my first quilt show.  It is not judged (less pressure).  I said that I would put 2 crib quilts in it, but then I couldn't find my favorite one anywhere.  So only one made it in.  I'll post pictures tomorrow.  You can see one of the quilts from last year's show here.

Plastic Bottle Bag & Video

I've been saving my Juicy Juice plastic bottles so that I can make something out of them.  For this experiment I cleaned the bottle, using Goo Gone to remove the sticky part that held the label on.  Next I cut off the top of the bottle.  I'm saving that part for another experiment.  Then I hole punched around the top of the bottom half.  Next take a tapestry needle and make a blanket stitch through each hole.  Round 1: Single crochet one to three times in each blanket stitch (just use your best judgement for the amount of times).  Round 2: single crochet in every stitch.  Round 3 and up: Double crochet in each stitch.

I plan on crocheting the same height as the plastic bottle.  Then I am going to make shells (I don't know what they are called) to finish the top.  Then I'll weave a ribbon through to make a drawstring.  This would make a good small project bag or yarn holder.

Music is "The Gaelic Reels" by Capercailli.

Navajo Spinning Without a Lead Video

An online friend of mine asked me to make a video of how I start on my Navajo Spindle without a lead. I am still learning how to spin fiber on it, so it is not perfect.  I learned how to use my Navajo spindle from this video of Clara Sherman.

In other news, I finished a Christmas present for my mom.  Sorry mom, no sneak peeks.

Music in the video is "Little Tree" by Coyote Grace.

Walking & Knitting at the Same Time.

Today we went for a walk at the park.  This picture is upside down, and I like it better that way (its my new desk top picture).  I brought my knitting with me, and as we walked, I knitted.  I can't believe that I can walk and knit at the same time.  My knitting project is a Christmas present for someone who does read my blog, so I can't post any pictures of it right now.

I also went ahead and uploaded the video that I made of me spinning wool on my Navajo spindle onto you tube.  A friend said that I should, and there aren't many Navajo spinning videos on you tube.

Tarn Walker Bag

During the summer I visited my grandma for a few days (she lives far from me).  She uses a walker and a walker bag (for the phone, remote, etc.).  She said that her walker bag was to light weight for her.  She wanted something with more weight to it.  Thats when I said a silent thank you to Cindy from myrecycle bags.com  for creating a wonderful walker bag pattern.  Her pattern calls for 2 skeins of tarn (t-shirt yarn).  I ended up using 3 skeins, because 2 of my skeins were from children's shirts.  The light blue tarn was from an extra large shirt.  This is a very easy and fast pattern to crochet.  The only real change that I made was chaining 2 stitches for the button hole instead of one.  The buttons also came from my stash (thankfully I had some blue ones).  I love this bag!  It is so pretty, and it is a nice size.  I'm going to give it to my grandma for Christmas.  I hope that she likes it.
