Juice box bags & Box Exchange

The last few days have been filled with sewing. I made 2 small purses from juice pouches (filling an order), and a small container made from juice pouches for someone I know. I also had to make 2 quilt blocks for the box exchange that I'm involved in with my quilt guild. They were due last Monday. This is the last month of the box exchange. Next month we get all of our finished blocks back. I'm wondering what mine look like. I gave people the choice of making a crazy quilt block or a wonky log cabin block. I'm wondering if people only make one block or if they made two. I hope that they made two. Also in quilting news, the block of the month is African inspired. We are to make a certain block without using rulers or templates. A piece of fabric was provided for us to match and use, but not overly match. It should be interesting. I had brought in my Easter quilt top for show and tell. That got a nice response.

I have also been busy knitting dish clothes. I am using size 9 needles and Sugar'N Cream yarn. My pattern is: Cast on 5 stitches. Knit the next row. Then all the other rows until 50 stitches on the needle I knit 2, knit in front and back of the 3rd stitch, and knit to the end. On the decreasing rows I knit 2, knit 2 together, and knit to the end. When 5 stitches remain, I bind off.

Earth Day Fair

The Earth Day Fair was today. It was a beautiful day. Some people did come out to see what was going on. This is only our 2nd year doing it in our town, so each year will get better. Thank you to everyone who came (both presenters, supporters, and passers by). Here are some pictures that Glenn put up on Flicker from the event. Thank you Glenn for doing that! I also want to give a special thanks to Gean from Chelmsford CAN for bringing her PA system. Also thank you Bonnie and Jonathan for providing some wonderful entertainment.

I will be posting a version of my 1st zine on here shortly. The zine is called "Recycled Crafts." It has a lot of links on how to make things out of recycled items. I handed them out at the fair today. They will also be available at both public libraries in Chelmsford. They are already at the main library. Any future issues will also be available at the libraries.

Earth Day Fair & current projects

The Earth Day Fair in Chelmsford, MA is this Saturday from 12 - 3 pm on the Town Common. If you are in the area, please come. There will be a story teller, live music, kids' trivia with prizes, information about solar power, wind power, clean energy solutions, composting, "greener" grass, a car that runs on vegetable oil, Cartridge World (recycle your cartridges), Chelmsford CAN, the recycling office, bird houses made from scrap lumber, how to make your own reusable shopping bag, vintage tie purses, how to make bags from t-shirts, plastic bags, juice pouches, soda tabs, and potato chip wrappers, info on co-housing, and much more. It is a FREE event. There are items that you can purchase. Come and learn how you can help our enviroment and our community.

In other news I have been knitting red, white, and blue dish towels. I have also been working on my new craft room. I was using the 3rd bedrrom as a craft room, but my youngest son will be moving into that room soon. He is still in our room. So I have been transforming a section of the basement into a craft room. Yesterday I cleared out some more space by setting up a holiday station in another part of the basment. Now I need to find a place for my husband's storage items. Then I will have more room in the area that I have claimed for myself. All of my fabric and yarn is well organized, and most of my craft and art books are organized as well. I have also been getting my stuff together for the Earth Day Fair. I have figured out a better way to show my juice pouch bags. Normally I have them all on a table. I am now using a clothing rack and hangers to show them. You don't get a great front view of them, but at least they are easier to look through. It also means that I have more room for my demos.

I can't seem to find the charger for my camera. So pictures are going to have to wait even longer.

Elephant

It's been a while since my last post. While in PA during the last weekend of March, I crochet 3 elephants. I am not done sewing the pieces together on the 2nd one yet. The 1st one was a gift for my mom for her birthday. She likes elephants with their trunks up. The 2nd one is for my toddler. The pattern is free through lionbrand.com. Just do a search for elephant on their website.

I have not done any crafts since then though. However I have purchased a few things to turn part of my unfinished basement into a craft studio. I went to Ikea and bought one of those 5 x 5 square shelves. I love that shelves. The little squares are perfect for craft items. I broke a few of the dowels in the building process and have to get more to finish it. I also bought some plastic bins that look like recycling containers. I'll use those to sort my various juice pouches in. I keep them organized by type and color. Now I just need to buy a rug and get the heat circulating down there (especially for next winter). I was using my toddler's room for crafting. However he will be moving in there (and out of my room) pretty soon.
